Created in Virtual Reality
with Microdose VR
A spontaneous music video I created in virtual reality with Microdose VR, inspired by meeting Youth at last week's double-header Killing Joke shows in NYC. I'm painting in mid-air, and the graphics bounce to the music in real time.
The software has been in development for three years and only released for initial testing in the last few weeks. Ultimately, they'll license it to VJs for public performance, so consider this my audition reel. 😉

Lyrics:
Come All Ye Faithful and shine a light on
And shine a light on, and shine a light on me
Come All Ye Faithful
You holy rollers and shine a light on me
When I said I loved you well I lied
I never really loved you I was laughing at you all the time
When I said I needed you I lied
I never needed anyone I laughed until I cried
Come all ye playboys, you saints and sinners
And watch it rain on, and watch it rain on me
Come all ye playboys, you druggy mothers
And watch it rain on me
When I said I loved you well I lied
I never really loved you I was laughing at you all the time
When I said I needed you I lied
I never needed anyone I laughed until I cried
Come All Ye Faithful you holy rollers
And shine a light on, and shine a light on me
Come All Ye playboys you druggy mothers
And shine a light on me
When I said I loved you well I lied
I never really loved you I was laughing at you all the time
When I said I needed you I lied
I never needed anyone I laughed until I cried

Through the windows of a foreign train
Look around
Look around
Destinations with unfamiliar names
At the speed of sound
Nowhere bound
In the distance I see lighted signs
Advertising the life
I want to leave behind
Looking forward to the other side
Where no one can sell you
Night falling and I see Apollo rise
Hand into heaven
Turn away with a heavy sigh
How can I
Touch the sky?
I lay back in my seat and dream
No way of knowing
Where this foreign train is taking me
Taking me
Taking me
Touch the sky

The Falconer – Jo Quail ………………… Directed by Tom Robinson
Jo Quail plays a Starfish electric cello and uses Boss RC50 and GT10B pedals to create and perform her music. 'The Falconer' is a track from Jo's forthcoming solo album. From a sparse rhythmic opening the falconer's theme builds, around which the music steadily develops using loops and effects. For further information please see joquail.co.uk and info@joquail.co.uk

Lyrics:
I'm in the dark, I'd like to read his mind
But I'm frightened of the things I might find
Oh, there must be something he's thinking of
To tear him away-a-ay
When I tell him that I'm falling in love
Why does he say-a-ay
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Uh-ah
I try so hard not to get upset
Because I know all the trouble I'll get
Oh, he tells me tears are something to hide
And something to fear-eh-eh
And I try so hard to keep it inside
So no one can hear
Frank Coleman explains Nim, the game from Last Year at Marienbad (1961)
Frank Coleman explains Nim, the game played in the film, "Last Year at Marienbad" (1961). The film is famous for its enigmatic narrative structure, in which time and space are fluid, with no certainty over what is happening to the characters, what they are remembering, and what they are imagining. Its dreamlike nature has both fascinated and baffled viewers; many have hailed the work as a masterpiece, although others have found it incomprehensible. Much like the game itself.

Lyrics
There's an army on the dance floor
It's a fashion with a gun, my love
In a room without a door
A kiss is not enough in
Love my way, it's a new road
I follow where my mind goes
They'd put us on a railroad
They'd dearly make us pay
For laughing in their faces
And making it our way
There's emptiness behind their eyes
There's dust in all their hearts
They just want to steal us all
And take us all apart
But not in
Love my way, it's a new road
I follow where my mind goes
Love my way, it's a new road
I follow where my mind goes
Love my way, it's a new road
I follow where my mind goes
So swallow all your tears, my love
And put on your new face
You can never win or loseIf you don't run the race
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Ah-hoo
Ah-hoo
Ah-hoo
Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh-ahh, ahh
Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh, ahh-ahh-ahh, ahh

7:30PM, Sunday night. My phone rings.
“Hey, we need a music video for Elizabeth by 9AM tomorrow morning. She’s going on TV to promote the new Downton Abbey movie. The only problem is we don’t have any footage.”
“That’s not your only problem. It’s 7:30, the night before.”
“We know. All we have is four other videos she did previously. The production values are great, but they’re four completely different songs, each with completely different lyrics and tempos than this one. Can you help us?”
“Sure. I can give you ONE HOUR. Put everything in a bag and send it to me. I’ll figure it out.”
[Two hours later]
“Here’s your video.”
Elizabeth: “It’s absolutely incredible. I’m amazed.”
